Eco-friendly display design templates

Eco-friendly display templates, also called green display templates or sustainable exhibit designs, are ready-made layouts with material specifications for low-waste stands. Use them as a starting brief for your exhibit builder or as a checklist when buying a portable or modular system.

This guide is part of the eco-friendly display options series.

Template A: 10 × 10 ft in-line booth

Element Specification
Back wall Recycled-aluminium frame with recycled-fabric graphic
Header Integrated into back wall; evergreen message
Lighting 2–4 LED spotlights, warm white
Furniture High table, two stools, one display piece
Flooring Reusable carpet tiles
Literature QR code to a landing page instead of brochures

Template B: 10 × 20 ft in-line booth

Everything in Template A, plus a second graphic wall section, a small meeting area with a low table and two chairs, a lockable counter for storage and a room-set or product zone. Use one campaign panel that can be swapped between shows.

Template C: 20 × 20 ft island booth

A central modular core that hides storage, graphics on four faces, a room-set display on the busiest side, a meeting area on the quietest side and walkways on all four sides. Use hanging fabric signage only if the venue allows and you'll reuse it.

Graphic guidelines for every template

Avoid dates, show names and prices on main graphics so they can be reused all season. Use water-based or latex inks on recycled fabric. Keep one swappable panel for campaign messages.

Lighting guidelines

Use LED fixtures only, aimed at products rather than walls. Warm white suits natural materials. Fewer, better-aimed fixtures use less power and look better.

Furniture guidelines

Choose durable pieces you'll reuse at other shows or in your showroom. Solid-wood benches, console tables, bar stools and cabinets suit all three templates. Artisan's handmade range is made with sustainable materials and practices and is available to trade buyers at 25% off MSRP with no minimum order.

Transport and waste guidelines

Pack frames and fabric compactly, consolidate freight, bring reusable crates and arrange recycling for anything that can't be reused. Plants can go to staff or a local charity after the show.

How do you adapt a template?

Start with the template closest to your booth, then adjust zones for your goals: more display space for launches, more meeting space for trade buying. Keep the material rules the same.

How do you adapt a template to your brand?

Keep the layout and material rules from the template and change the visible elements: graphics, colours, furniture style and lighting mood. A furniture brand might adapt Template B with a room set in the display zone; a technology brand might use the same template with screens and demo stations.

How do you scale a template up or down?

Templates are modular. Going from A to B adds a second wall section, a meeting area and a counter; going from B to C reorganizes everything around a central core. Because the frame, graphics and furniture are reusable, scaling mostly means adding parts rather than replacing them.

How do you measure whether a template works?

Track leads, meetings and orders per show, plus the sustainability measures: materials reused, freight weight and waste. Compare across shows and adjust the template.

Which mistakes undermine eco templates?

Adding single-use graphics for every show, buying cheap furniture that doesn't last, printing too much literature and forgetting to plan where materials go afterwards.

Resources

The Canada Green Building Council, the Sustainable Furnishings Council and suppliers of compostable event products such as Eco-Products can help. See also steps to create an eco-friendly booth layout.

A one-off event instead?

For a single event, rent a modular system and furniture rather than buying, and choose recyclable materials for anything printed.

Reusable layouts and material specifications for stands that minimize waste: reusable frames, fabric graphics, LED lighting, durable furniture and evergreen messaging.

How do you choose an eco-friendly display template?+

Pick the template that fits your booth size and goals, then swap in certified or recycled materials your suppliers can provide.

Where can you find sustainable display designs?+

From exhibit builders with sustainability programs, display system suppliers and industry groups such as the Sustainable Furnishings Council.
